In ancient times, physiognomy had already attracted much attention, when it was only an empty art and not yet considered a true natural science. This discipline was revered and practised by Pythagoras and his disciples. Plato also once referred to this discipline. Aristotle is said to have written a treatise on the subject, and Diogenes introduced them into the Life of Aristotle”. The relationship between inner character and outer development was widely disseminated by sophistic philosophers, however, it cannot be well explained.
